HOW TO START A WEB DESIGN COMPANY IN KENYA

Basically starting a web design company in Kenya is not a hard thing. All you need are the necessary packages, a computer and about Kshs. 30, 000/=
Kenya Web design business relies mostly on your creativity. To start with, you need to havb design in Kenya e knowledge of; HTMC, CSS, JavaScript, (for static web page) and php and mysql (for dynamic webpage) you also need to have knowledge either in dreamweaver, fireworks, photo shops e.t.c. on top of this as I early questioned, a good command of English (for content verifying) is important.
Most of the other skills like uploading pages, buying domain names, C.M.S (open source e.g. joomla) needs a bit of dedication and they can be easily learnt by yourself.
All with all this, you need to have the following;
i) A good computer with internet connection - this does not necessarily mean an expensive one. You can get a good one from Kshs. 10,000/= but make sure it’s not an old P1 or II.
ii) Register your business - registering a business in Kenya is easy you need something like Kshs. 800/= at the registrar of companies. Then thereafter open a bank account which is tree in K.C.B and Equity.
iii) Design a contract – a simple contract between you and your client and a receipt book can make you start off. Be official make sure a client pays 35 – 50% of the agreed amount before you commence a project, and then issue a receipt.
iv) Advertisement – use the local daily (Nation Newspaper is the best) classified column as most Kenya web design companies does. Here one line of advert can cost anywhere between 300 – 350 per day depending on the day. You can start with a two week and then cross your fingers. But make sure your cell phone is always on.
v) Collaboration – for bigger projects reach out for others and have collaboration. Engage other web designers in Kenya.
vi) Start small – don’t rush into opening an office before the money starts flowing. You can easily start in your room and offer to meet your clients in their offices. Good luck.
